1. The Promoter of the Competition is The Serpentine Trust of Kensington Gardens, London W2 3XA.
  2. Entry to this Competition is open to persons who will be aged between 8 and 14 years on 09 October 2016 except: the children or close relatives of Serpentine Galleries employees or freelance contractors, or its agents; any official partners, supporters, or sponsors of the Competition; or anyone who is otherwise involved in the organisation or judging of the Competition. Proof of age, identity and eligibility may be requested. Entry will be in two age categories – ages 8 to 10 years (on 09 October 2016) and 11 to 14 years (on 09 October 2016).
  3. Entrants must create a design for their own Pavilion. This can be in the form of a model created out of the materials suggested on the Build Your Own Pavilion website or a digital 3D CAD Design. Entrants should submit an image of their design in jpeg or pdf format or a link to their 3D CAD design. Image files should be saved at a high quality setting of at least 8 in Photoshop, Adobe RGB (1998), and at least 1500 pixels along the longest dimension. Submitted digital files can be attached to the entry form provided they are less than 18MB in size. Alternatively larger files can be submitted to dropbox or google drive. Entry is via an online entry form available at http://buildyourownpavilion.serpentinegalleries.org. Entrants will be asked to provide their name, their age, a contact email address and a brief description of their design.
    An adult will be required to approve the entry and agree to these Terms and Conditions on behalf of the entrant, by way of a check-box in the online form. The adult may be the child’s parent, guardian or teacher.
  4. The personal data provided will be used for the purposes of administering the competition and in accordance with the Serpentine Galleries Privacy and Cookies Policy. Serpentine Galleries will use the contact details provided by the adult to send general updates as to the progress of the competition by email.
  5. Entry opens on Tuesday 07 June 2016 at 09:00. Entry closes on Sunday 09 October 2016 at 19:00. Submissions received outside of this timeframe will not be considered.
  6. Entrants can only enter individually. Each entrant can submit up to 5 entries to the competition. Entries by groups or organisations will not be considered.
  7. Entries cannot be returned so please remember to retain a copy. Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted in respect of their entry and no feedback on any entry will be provided.
  8. All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. Serpentine Galleries accepts no responsibility if entrants ignore these Terms and Conditions and entrants agree to indemnify Serpentine Galleries against any claim by any third party from any breach of these Terms and Conditions.
  9. Entries must not contain defamatory, obscene, offensive, or any other unsuitable material. Entries must be suitable to be published or used online by Serpentine Galleries for audiences of all ages, but in particular for a child audience.
  10. Entrants retain the copyright in their entries but grant to Serpentine Galleries a perpetual non-exclusive royalty-free licence to publish, broadcast and post the entry online (including on social media) and on any other platforms yet to be envisaged. This licence will be deemed to include all the necessary rights and permissions to enable such use by Serpentine Galleries, to fulfill the prizes and to complete the administration of this competition.
  11. An independent panel of experts comprising a chair and judges will be appointed by Serpentine Galleries to select the winners and runners up in each age category.
  12. Prizes will be awarded to the two finalists in each age group in both the Model and 3D CAD Design categories. Details of the prizes can be found on the Prizes page of the Build Your Own Pavilion website. No cash alternative will be available.
  13. The parents or guardians or teacher of the winning entrants will be contacted by a member of the competition team before the end of November 2016. Proof of age, identity and eligibility may be requested at this stage.
  14. The Serpentine Galleries’ decision as to the choice of winners in each category is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
  15. Serpentine Galleries reserve the right to disqualify any entry which breaches any of these Terms and Conditions, or to withhold a prize if in its opinion entries do not reach the required standard.
  16. All entrants agree that, if their entry is selected by the Judges, they will participate in related publicity and agree to the use of their name and likeness for the purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity of the Competition without additional compensation.
  17. Serpentine Galleries reserve the right to amend these Terms and Conditions or cancel this competition at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, or if circumstances arise outside of its control.
  18. Serpentine Galleries, its sub-contractors, subsidiaries, agencies and/or any other organisation associated with this competition cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem with any server, Internet access, system or otherwise which may result in any entry being lost or not properly registered or recorded. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt.
  19. These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
