Build Your Own Pavilion

Christian, age 16

My final model I decided to use a walk-through theme in which my pavilion would provide a sense of awe and a community. I used the idea of a vertical garden to make my pavilion futuristic and stand out. I found making the model I had to make lots of small adjustments to it as I had not thought out the physical model enough. For example, the dowel joint sticks I used, I cut too short as I didn’t realise slanting them so they would fit together at a point would make them shorter than I needed. So, I had to remake parts. I used frosted acrylic as it is translucent so allows some light in but not all so it still gives the effect of being inside. I used MDF cut using a laser cutter and fake grass on top to replicate a vertical garden. I used gravel to add to the natural aesthetics making it seem more real. Access to my pavilion would only be for visitors, students and teachers as my chosen area is on school site, however it would still look pleasing to everyone walking by.
