This pavilion is to be situated on a derelict site to the south side of Rye Lane, near Nigel Road. The area has been unused and neglected for many years and makes an ugly contribution to the area. The goal here is to make the south of the lane as pleasant as the north, where Peckham square (library, Peckham plex, etc) makes such a great environment; an enriching part of the close Peckham community.
The pavilion is designed to attract the variety of people living in the area as a leisure space that could be used to hold events such as talks, workshops and discos, as well as a common area for eating lunch, spending time with friends, including an infant- friendly area for families with young members.
There are small green spaces around the area however they are unused; there is no seating or in fact any reason to be there. The roof of the pavilion would provide a pleasant green, sunny area in contrast to the very urban neighbourhood.
Peckham is renowned for its community- many people are familiar with each other and independent businesses are well loved by locals. Rye lane is always full of locals going about their daily errands and the success of Peckham Square makes it clear that such a space is appreciated. However these spaces are limited, so this pavilion would provide another of these spaces to reflect the powerful community of Peckham.
